AccuTrace™ Heat Trace - Theory of Operation
How Self-Regulation Works:
AccuTrace™Self-Regulating Heater Cable is a parallel circuit electric
heater strip. A specially blended combination of polymer and conductive
carbon creates electrical paths between the parallel bus wires at
every point along the circuit.
As it warms, the core expands microscopically, increasing resistance
to electrical flow and causing the heater to reduce its power output.
As surrounding temperature cools, the core contracts microscropically,
decreasing the resistance and increasing the heater output. The
heater continues this response to temperature throughout the life
of the product. The self-regulating effect allows the cable to be
overlapped without creating hot spots or burnout.
The AccuTrace™ family of heat trace cables contain a tinned copper
braid, covering the inner jacket, with a fluoropolymer overjacket
for use in hazardous areas. This cable meets the NEC code 427-22
427-33.
